At the corner of Cubbon Road and Central Street is the 108 year old BRV (Bangalore Rifle Volunteers) Golden Palm Army Canteen. What was once a ballroom, and then a theatre DSC (Defence Services Cinema) now stands as a testament to Medieval Tudor style architecture in central Bangalore. A building that has served 3 functions ages gracefully and also exudes charm. The ballroom is said to have teak wood floors which would be routinely polished before the YWCA organised themed grand balls. Imagine these panelled doors and windows opened out to the street, almost mimicking the stone masonry that makes up the structure. The simple detailing is made graceful by using the same material granite right through, notice the keystone lintels and what may have been wildly decorated coat of arms.
